So…

Best Overall – Best robot Vacuum for Pet Hair

Neato Robotics D7

When it comes to cleaning power and reliability, the Neato Robotics D7 is our best overall pick for pet owners.

Unlike other robot vacuums with a circular design, The Neato D7 has a corner cleaning “D” design that allows this robovac to reach corners in which, more often than not, the majority of the pet hair and debris usually pile up.

Imbedded laser technology let it clean in straight lines versus random patterns and a large brush removes and collects more pet hair for a more organized and thorough cleaning with pet owners specifically in mind.

Paired with the free Neato app, this vacuum has a variety of customization options programable around your cleaning needs, schedule and floor plan. If you have an area where you want the vacuum to stay away from, like a pet water bowl area for example, just simply set up a “no-go” zone and the vacuum will know to stay away from that area.

This is how it ranks with our “non-negotiables” for a pet owner.

Added Benefits

  • High-precision mapping
  • Recharge & resume
  • LCD display
  • Wi-Fi and App connectivity
  • Amazon Alexa and Google assistant pairing
  • Multi-floor mapping

Best Runner-Up

iRobot Roomba 960

Slightly behind the Neato D7, the Roomba 960 from iRobot, is not only backed by one of the best known brands in the Robot Vacuum market but it is also backed by pretty cool features.

Features like a 3-stage cleaning system, automatic re-charging and smart sensors, allow this top-tier robot vacuum to map an entire level of your home and maneuver around furniture with ease, to deliver high quality cleaning without missing an area.
Wi-Fi connectivity allows the Roomba 960 to connect to the iRobot Home app, from which you can customize and control how you would like it to clean based on multiple parameters and schedules.

Equipped with patented Dirt Detect technology, a large edge-sweeping brush and two multi-surface rubber brushes that prevent hair clogs, the days of hair balls around your home are over.

This is how it ranks with our “non-negotiables” for a pet owner.

Added Benefits

  • High-precision mapping

Best Budget Friendly Robot Vacuum for Pet hair

Eufy RoboVac 30c Max

With the same suction power as our Best Overall, at 2000 Pa, this impressive Robot Vacuum delivers excellent cleaning power at about half the price.

Designed with a super-slim design of only 2.85 inches tall, the RoboVac 30c has no problem getting under furniture and hard to reach places.

Boundary strips allow you to “tape-off” areas of your floor to which you don’t want the vacuum to go into. Unfortunately, unlike the Neato D7, this is a manual task and not available from the App.

It does have EufyHome App, Alexa and Google Assistant connectivity that allow voice commands, cleaning customization and manual movement control.

However, it does come with some compromises compared to the better options above. For example, it does not have a full bin indicator that lets you know when the bin is full and it is time to empty.

Additionally, it uses “bounce navigation” but it does not have mapping capabilities that allow it to learn every inch of you home. This can lead to some spots in your home not getting cleaned properly.

This is how it ranks with our “non-negotiables” for a pet owner

Added Benefits

  • High-precision mapping
  • Voice prompts
  • Recharge & resume
  • Wi-Fi and App connectivity
  • Amazon Alexa and Google assistant pairing
  • Anti-drop sensors

Cons

  • No real time tracking
  • No zoned cleaning
  • No multi-floor maps
  • No selected room cleaning

Best Robot Vacuum Under $250

Eufy RoboVac 12

For a “budget” robot vacuum, Eufy brings another low-cost machine packed with specs from a top-tier robovac.

The RoboVac 12 with BoostIQ comes with 1500 Pa of max suction power, which is very impressive for a unit below $250. This allows the unit to pick up more dust, dirt and hair; something pet owners need in order to keep up with all the hair and dirt that cats and dogs bring into your home.

Equipped with a large dustbin, 100 min of battery life, Cliff Sensors and a great slim design, the RoboVac 12 is great for small and medium-sized homes with tile, hardwood floors and low-pile carpets and rugs.

A con to the RoboVac 12 is that this unit does not have Wi-Fi connectivity which takes away the possibility of app and smart home pairing.

Additionally, no app connectivity means you don’t have the capacity to map, schedule and digitally interact with the vacuum.

This is how it ranks with our “non-negotiables” for a pet owner

Added Benefits

  • Auto-recharing
  • Anti-drop sensors

Cons

  • No Wi-Fi or Smart home connectivity
  • No real time tracking
  • No zoned cleaning

Slightly behind the Neato D7, the only reason that we didn’t select the Roomba i7+ for our Best Overall Robot Vacuum for pet hair, is the price, because when it comes to added benefits, this Robovac brings them all. This is truly a “set it and forget it” type of Robot Vacuum.

With an impressive home station that automatically empties the main unit, you don’t have to think about emptying the dustbin for months. When it comes time to emptying the base station, handy and clean AllergenLock bags make the job incredibly easy and clean.

Imprint Smart Mapping enables the robot to map and adapt to its surroundings and while it learns multiple floor plans, it remembers each inch of your home so no spot is left uncleaned. This feature alone makes it ideal for large homes with lots of navigation.

Another feature that makes this Robovac ideal for homes with kids and pets is the dual multi-surface rubber brushes. The rubber brushes adjust to each surface whether it is hardwood floors, tile or carpet to ensure no dust, dirt or hair are left behind.

What is a Robot Vacuum?

A Robot Vacuum cleaner or a Robovac is a machine that with the help of internal computing, sensors and self-navigation programming, can autonomously vacuum and pick up debris throughout your house. These high-tech components allow the Robot Vacuum to map a desired room and create a path, which it will follow in order to thoroughly clean the entire area. Equipped with wheels, spinning brushes, rollers and an internal dust compartment, most Robot Vacuums work very similarly to upright or manual vacuums. In the sense that they suction dirt, dust and debris, as they roll over it and it then stores that debris in a special compartment for it to then be thrown away in the garbage bin. An additional advantage to Robovacs is that due to their size, they have a better capacity to clean under furniture or hard to reach places without the problem of having to shuffle furniture around.

What to Consider When Buying a Robot Vacuum for Pet Hair?

From the time that they were first released to the market, robot vacuums have come a long way in both price and capabilities; and some of these capabilities now make these Robovacs great for pet owners.

In our search for the best Robot Vacuum for pet hair, we have pin pointed the specs that you will want to pay close attention to.

Depending on your specific needs, these specs will help in your decision to pick your vacuum.

1. Suction Power

With a large variety of specs and styles, Robot Vacuums can sometimes differ from each other in their suction capabilities.

As pet owners, you don’t want to be left picking up hair balls behind your robot vacuum. For that reason, suction power is extremely important in the search for a Robovac that won’t let you or your pet down.

2. Filter Quality

The internal filter in a Robovac plays an important role in trapping dirt particles, lint, dust, mold spores and even pet dander that would otherwise be left on the floor, carpet or floating in the air.

Finding a Robot Vacuum equipped with a high efficiency filter can make all the difference when it comes to the quality of the air you and your family breathe on a daily basis.

3. Battery Life

As pet owners, you know that the frequency in which you clean can be can be increased by the hair and dirt that your pet carries into your home.

This is why your Robot Vacuum’s battery life can play a big role in the frequency that you use your machine.

Having to manually re-charge or stop in the middle of cleaning is not optimal and that is why it is critical to have a long battery life that will allow your Robot Vacuum to run for hours and get the job done right.

Self-charging capabilities can make your Robot Vacuum an even more pleasant addition to your cleaning routine. When looking for a vacuum, self-charging may be an added cost but worth it in the long run.

4. Multi-Surface Versatility

Not all Robot Vacuums are created equal and neither is your flooring.

Multi-surface versatility means that your Robovac will have no problem in switching from hardwood flooring, low-pile carpet, high-pile carpet and even rugs without compromising its suction ability and quality of cleaning.

5. Dustbin Compartment Size

As the robot vacuum picks up dirt, hair and debris, the cleaning compartment fills up more and more.

It is important to know that even though Robovacs operate autonomously, you still have to empty its dustbin compartment once it is full.

For that reason, the dustbin compartment size and ease of emptying play an important role when selecting the best vacuum for you.

6. Noise Level

Unlike regular upright vacuums, most Robot Vacuums operate at a very low noise level. Some are even quiet enough to the point that you can’t tell that they are cleaning the room around you.

Additionally, if you are planning on programming your Robot Vacuum to run in the middle of the night, you don’t want it to wake you, your family or your pet from sleep.

7. Added Benefits

The technology that allows Robot Vacuums to operate has advanced impressively from the time that they were first brought to the market and so has the added benefits that manufactures have given to them.

These benefits include self-emptying capabilities, Wi-Fi connectivity, app connectivity, high-efficiency filtration, smart home pairing and smart mapping can make a Robot Vacuum a no brainer when thinking about upping your cleaning game.

FAQ’s About Robot Vacuums

1. Do you need Wi-Fi for a Robot Vacuum?

Not all Robot Vacuums are Wi-Fi compatible so the answer is no. However, as manufacturers continue to add more and more specs and capabilities to Robot Vacuums, Wi-Fi and smart phone app connectivity allows the user to customize and adjust their Robot vacuums based on their needs.

2. Can a Robot Vacuum replace a normal/manual vacuum?

Not all robot vacuums are created equal so the answer to this question depends on the specs and type of Robot Vacuum.

While the more expensive Robovacs have suction power levels comparable to upright vacuums and brushes that allows them to clean deep down while on carpet, other robots do not.

For that reason, if your Robot Vacuum lacks some of the higher-level capabilities that upright vacuums have, it is recommended that you use your Robovac in conjunction with an upright or manual vacuum. Specially if you have high-pile carpet or rugs.

3. How long do Robot Vacuums last?

With proper maintenance, routine cleaning and timely replacement of the main components like the air filter and cleaning brushes, Robot Vacuums can last anywhere from 3 to 6 years.

While this is an estimate, it will vary and depends on the quality of the Robot Vacuum. It is known that lower level and less expensive Robovac brands use cheaper materials that are more susceptible to wear and tear.

Create a routine around cleaning and maintaining your robot vacuum and you can extend the life of your machine for quite a long time.

4. Do Robot Vacuums scratch wood floors?

Most robot vacuums are designed with multi-surface capabilities, including wood floors.

However, lower lever and less expensive Robot Vacuums have been known to create scratches on hardwood and engineered wood floors.

5. Can a Robot Vacuum be repaired?

Most Robot Vacuums require replacement of the main components like the air filter, brushes and even the dust bin after a period of time and use. This ensures that the machine continues to work properly and delivers the intended level of cleaning.

Additionally, even though not as common, other robot vacuum components like sensors, lasers, antennas and wheels may need replacement after a few years of extended use.

Most manufacturers offer replacement parts available for purchase and independent repair shops offer repair options for different brands and models of Robovacs.

We hope this guide helped you make a great decision in selecting your next Robot Vacuum and we’d love to hear from you if you have any questions or comments.
